Thinking about auditioning? We are so glad you’re here!
Here is what membership in an Adult Company at The Studio involves, so you can decide with a clear picture of the time and financial commitment.
Who Companies Are For
Our Adult Companies are open level. Our members include people who have never taken a dance class before and people with years of training and stage experience, and they rehearse and perform side by side. If you have been wondering whether you are the right fit, you probably are. Come audition and find out!
The Season
Adult Company seasons run August through July. Members sign a contract for the full season, and tuition is billed monthly. We hold auditions in the fall each year.
Tuition
Company tuition covers a weekly rehearsal class with your company and participation in two Studio-produced shows each season. Every company is led by a director who is a master teacher in their genre, so your weekly rehearsal is real training, not just show prep. Beyond those productions, company members often have additional opportunities to perform throughout the year, whether that is a community event, a special project, or a chance to get on stage that comes up mid-season. There are also chances to take class, and for members who want to make work of their own, to develop small group choreography. If you dance with more than one company, you rehearse and perform with each of them.
Our shows are professional, high-quality productions staged in local performance venues. This season, for example, our two productions are in October at the Georgia Theatre and in May at the Morton Theatre.
- First company membership: $100/month
- Second company membership: $50/month
- Each additional company beyond the second: $50/month
Unlimited Classes Add-On
Company members also can add unlimited drop-in classes for $30/month, which is the cost of a single drop-in class for non-company adults.
The add-on includes:
- Unlimited access to our drop-in schedule, taught by instructors who are true masters of their genres. Every slot on the schedule is expert-level instruction.
- A weekly Adult Company technique class (60 minutes), taught on a rotating basis by Grace Bagwell Adams, Lindsay Giedl, and Hope Brown. This class is open to all Adult Company members regardless of which company or companies you dance with. We cover flexibility, turns, improv, center floor, across-the-floor technique, and performance quality: focused, high-level training to keep building your foundation.
The add-on is optional. You choose the level of investment that is right for you!
Scholarships
Keeping dance and performance opportunities open to everyone is core to who we are, and partial scholarships are available to Adult Company members.
A few things to know about how the process works:
- Partial scholarships are awarded through an annual application.
- Scholarships do not carry over between seasons. Members reapply each season.
- Our budget is built on the hours each company uses, so the number of partial scholarships available depends on each company’s membership and its ability to cover its own overhead and staffing.
Applications open each summer for the season ahead.
Continuing Year to Year
At the end of each season, we assume returning members are continuing unless they let us know otherwise. Members who are not continuing give written notice before the new season begins so tuition is not billed.
Questions about any of this? We are always happy to talk it through before you audition!
